top Estonian DJs
and the British DJ-duo 'Spring Heel Jack', percussionists, players of traditional
instruments (kannel/zither and bagpipe) and vocalist Priit Lehto. In 2002
WGT started
to work with the Gregorian chant ensemble Vox

David Rothenberg (clarinet, live electronics) and John Wieczorek (percussion)
as well as with master
percussionist Brian Melvin (USA).

Guitar Trio. In 1999 the new music festival 'NYYD' commissioned works from
all 3 members of the WGT;
in 2002 three young composers from Germany wrote
new pieces for the group.

Lühidalt:
Weekend Guitar Trio loob komponeeritud
ja improviseeritud muusikat kolmele elektrikitarrile ja elektroonikale. Triot
on mõjutanud dzhäss, elektrooniline
ja maailmamuusika. WGT hakkas tegutsema 1993.
aastal, nad on andnud välja 4 heliplaati ja esinenud
paljudel dzhässi- ja uue muusika festivalidel.
Ajalugu:
Weekend Guitar Trio moodustus
1993. aastal
pärast Robert Jürjendali osalemist ühel Guitar Crafti kursusel
Saksamaal. Trios on kolm kitarristi: Robert Jürjendal, Tõnis Leemets
ja Mart Soo, kelle muusikaline taust hõlmab vastavalt klassikalise
kitarri ja Guitar
Crafti meetodit, alternatiivset elektroonilist tantsu-
muusikat ja dzhässi/vaba improvisatsiooni.
WGT loob komponeeritud ja improviseeritud
muusikat kolmele elektrikitarrile ja elektroonikale. Ansambel on esinenud
dzhässifestivalidel Eestis,
Leedus, Moldovas, Soomes, Venemaal, Saksamaal,
Prantsusmaal, Kreekas ja Tshehhis; samuti
nüüdismuusika festivalidel Eestis ja Saksamaal ning kitarrikonkursil
Lausanne'is, Shveitsis, kus saavutati
esikoht dzhässi ja kaasaegse muusika kategoorias.
Salvestused:
WGT on andnud välja 7
albumit ning nende
muusika kõlab nii mõnelgi kogumikul. Eesti Raadio ja
Eesti Televisioon on teinud ansamblist mitu saadet,
WGT muusika on kõlanud eetris BBC's ja paljudes
teistes Euroopa raadiojaamades.
Koostöö:
WGT on musitseerinud koos
parimate eesti
DJ-dega ja briti DJ-duoga Spring Heel Jack; mitmete löökpillimängijate,
rahvamuusikute (kandle-ja torupillimängijad) ning meessolistidega (Priit
Lehto).
Aastal 2002 alustati koostööd vanamuusikaansambliga
Vox Clamantis, seejärel David Rothenbergi (klarnet) ja
John Wieczoreki (löökpillid) ning meistertrummar Brian Melviniga.
Teosed:
WGT on kandnud ette shveitsi
helilooja Giancarlo Nicolai kompositsiooni "La Speranza" (koos
rahvusvahelise kitarriorkestriga), samuti eesti heliloojate Tõnu Kõrvitsa,
Anti Marguste, Jaan Räätsa, Mirjam Tally
ja Toivo Tulevi poolt spetsiaalselt WGT-le kirjutatud
teoseid. Aastal 1999 esitati NYYD-festivalil trio kõigi
kolme liikme kompositsioone, aastal 2002 kirjutasid
WGT-le uudisteoseid kolm noort saksa heliloojat.
"The biggest surprise
of the festival was the Weekend Guitar Trio; incorporating an arsenal of effects,
a variety of extended techniques and a few choice pieces of peripheral hardware,
the WGT created striking soundscapes that lingered in the mind long after
their set was over."
/
Bill Shoemaker, Jazz Times/
These three players read off of each other
with natural ease and really know how to coax unique moods and sounds from
their instruments and effects boxes.
/Richard
di Santo, Incursion.org/
Comprised of three unbearably talented Estonians,
this Trio makes music that crosses the borders of modern jazz, classical,
progressive rock and ambience. Weekend Guitar Trio throws in enough stylistic
changes to insure Zero Listener Ennui.
/Amy
Leach, Splendid E-zine/
[Weekend Guitar Trios] unorthodox sound
combines the improvisation of modern jazz and the traditional music of various
world cultures.
/Chris
Rivituso, Moscow Times/
Weekend Guitar Trio played music I would call
psychedelic jazz. At their concert I felt as if I was in curved space, where
the laws of 3-dimensional physics are not valid.
/Aime Hansen, Nädal/
The BBC made a phone-call to the Estonian
Radio before playing the Weekend Guitar Trio on the air to ask if their track
Setu Itk had really been recorded by just 3 guitar players.
/Jüri
Laulik, Kroonika/
/Bill Shoemaker, "JazzTimes"/
WGT ebaharilikus kõlapildis kohtub kaasaegse dässi improvisatsioon
erinevate kultuuride pärimusmuusikaga.
/Chris
Rivituso, "Moscow Times"/
Weekend Guitar Trio esitas muusikat, mille ristisin mõttes psühhedeeliliseks
dässiks.
WGT seekordsel kontserdil tundus, nagu oleksin sattunud kõverruumi,
kus kolmemõõtmelised parameetrid ei kehti.
/Aime Hansen, "Nädal"/
BBCst helistati enne Weekend Guitar Trio muusika esitamist Eesti Raadio
välissuhete osakonda ja paluti täiendavat informatsiooni.
Inglased küsisid ka imestades, kas WGT loo Setu itk on sisse
mänginud tõesti vaid kolm kitarristi.
/Jüri
Laulik, "Kroonika"/
